Hal Metlitzky started woodturning 30 years ago. As a self-taught artist and craftsman, he melded his engineering background with artistic vision to create intricate designs highlighting the rich colors of rare hardwoods. This symbiosis led to experimentation with methods of turning thousands of pieces of wood into his signature segmented turned bowls. In 2011, Hal developed an innovative technique that incorporated movement into segmented turnings for the first time, ushering in a new direction in woodturning.
